As many of you know, I have been sharing my home office with my kids during these last 6 months. Recently we have started shifting things around to create a little more space for me to create my ideal home-based office and to give the kids a quiet place of their own for homework (and of course, gaming!). One of my favorite “side effects” from clearing out the clutter of the office…a noticeable shift in my energy.
I did not consciously plan the clearing of space around the September’s Full Moon in Pisces*, but, I am sure it helped a bit. Clearing out the clutter was a time to reminisce on all the little bits, books, papers, photos, and scraps that I had tucked away from work and home life. Some stuff gave me warm fuzzies, some stuff was a visual reminder that I need more file folders and some stuff needed to be junked or recycled.
As the room took on a new shape, I began feeling a renewed excitement for my work/home life balance; I enjoyed the feeling of “Hey, maybe I CAN have it all”. It reignited my creativity for work projects (hmm, like a neglected blog) and home projects (we should make brownies this week!). And it renewed my sense of individuality; I kept thinking this works for me and that is all it needs to work for in this moment; so I am hanging up my framed copy of Café Terrace at Night–next to my son’s Kindergarten creation of “stained glass”–next to my tiny woven basket from my childhood that held little treasures; solely because they each bring me joy.
All those things were always inside me; excitement, creativity, self-expression and joy. They did not go away. But they did get muddled down with the heaviness of the current events that are impacting all of us today. However, clearing out the physical clutter in my home office did a fabulous job of clearing out the mental, emotional and spiritual clutter.
Another “side effect” of clearing the clutter in the office?
I found my Feng Shui book. Accidental?? Probably not. Divinely guided and perfectly timed?? Probably. 😊
Feng Shui is a 3000-year-old Chinese art of placing, arranging, and manipulating your home, yard, or office space/business to enhance the energy of that particular environment. Those specific tweaks can in turn positively impact your life in the areas of wealth, family, career, healthy, creativity and love. The Feng Shui practice “works” by balancing and harmonizing the flow of life energy, Chi. The Chinese refer to life energy as Chi, but you may also may have heard it as Qi, Prana, Ki, Shakti, Mana—most cultures have a word that references this type of energy.
I love my little Feng Shui book. When I see it, read it and especially when I use the techniques outlined in it; I am immediately reminded that energy is, and impacts, everything. Although I knew where I wanted to put a few items in my home office; utilizing the suggestions in the book will help me to consciously and mindfully create a space that is functional but also supportive of my energy, needs, and goals. I can’t wait to see what opportunities and outcomes will come my way after rearranging my home office space and harmonizing my energy!
For those of you who are wanting to learn a little bit more about the possible benefits for Feng Shui, check out, “Feng Shui: Tips for a Better Life”, by David Daniel Kennedy. As stated by the author in the book:
“The essential reason for doing Feng Shui is so the chi of your home can be more conducive to your growth, development, and success. By overhauling and tuning the flow of your home’s energy with Feng Shui, you directly enhance and cultivate your own energy”.
Don’t currently have the time or energy to invest your time fully into reading a book or not sure where to start in trying Feng Shui?
