What is Reiki?
Reiki is a natural, simple energy balancing and healing technique. The meaning of the word Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is Universal Life Energy. “Life Energy” is always flowing around and within us, along pathways called Chakras or Meridians. Sometimes our energy becomes disrupted or blocked due to stress, other emotional issues and/or physical conditions. As an Usui Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, I will assist you in mending the disruptions or clearing the blockages of the Life Energy; resulting in healing on a physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual level.
Treatment is completely painless and discrete. I use a technique without direct touch; placing my hands over specific areas of the body. Clients remain fully clothed and can choose from a seated or laying down position. Experiences vary from person to person; but clients have described feeling calm, relaxed, refreshed, revitalized and recharged after Reiki treatments.
Additional benefits:
*Reduces stress and increases relaxation
*Fosters natural self-healing through improving immune function
*Assists with emotional “blocks” and transforming negative feelings
*Revitalizes and balances energies in the body
*Aids in better sleep
*Relieves pain and discomfort, including reducing chronic physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, frequent colds, digestive disorders brought on by stress
*Enhances spiritual growth, including inner peace and harmony
- Sessions can be scheduled as needed or on a weekly basis to address more chronic issues.
- Reiki is available to River’s Journey Counseling clients. However, insurance does not cover the cost of Reiki Services.
- 60 minute Usui Reiki Distance session-$100, relax from home but still receive the benefits of a full Reiki session.
- Reiki Level I, II and III training available.

More good stuff!
Women Walk and Talk in the Woods: Women Walk and Talk in the Woods will be back in April! I am so excited for time for us to lace up our shoes and hit one of the area forest preserves for our 1:1 sessions. See the FAQ’s below:
- Who is this for? As the title implies…any woman*, 18 and older with access to transportation. But more specifically, if you have been struggling to begin or stick to a routine of moving your body, if you have been struggling to carve out time to decompress or manage stress, if you don’t know where to start with self-care–this is for you! If are are sick of Zoom meetings and want to return to feeling connected to Nature–this is for you! If are ready to practice being present, moving mindfully and creating a new healthy habit–this is for you! If you are looking for a new strategy or process of sorting out your next step for creating positive change in your life–this is for you! We will get the mind, body and spirit moving.
- Where do we go? We will set up a day, time and location that mutually works. Johnson’s Mound, Dick Young Forest Preserve, LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, Fabyan Preserve, Elburn Forest Preserve, Hickory Knolls, Peck Farm Park, and Red Oak Nature Center are great options. If the weather is mucky, we can head along the Fox River (Batavia, Geneva, or St. Charles) on paved paths or trusty sidewalk. For those needing wheelchair accessible paths, the Great Western Trail or Illinois Prairie path can be great options!
- How do we determine the pace? We determine that together. We want to be able to carry on a conversation and we want to be able to stop and take notice of what is around us as well.
- How intense is this? This is by noooo means a trail run. In fact, there will be no running on my part unless I am running away from hornets. Nor is it some kind of expedition, just two humans walking and talking.
- What is the investment? Even though I think a walk and talk in the woods is therapeutic, your insurance company sadly does not agree—so, these sessions fall under coaching self-pay. Payment via a Square invoice prior to the session is required. If the weather turns sour we will reschedule. If you just want a break from our regular Zoom or phone sessions an individual session is $135. If you are ready to lace up your shoes and create powerful change in your life through a commitment to self-care, I suggest a package of 4 sessions $500 or 8 sessions for $920. With packages we will schedule a 30 ZOOM call (for free!) to formally meet if we haven’t already and to kick off creating our plan and personalized emails in between walks. (P.S. Commitment to your physical, mental/emotional and spiritual health is priceless. Cheesy but true.)
- What days is this available? Monday-Friday 9:30am-1:30pm, Saturday 9:30am-1pm (these are Spring hours, Summer and Fall hours may vary)
- Who is this not for? Wee ones (toddlers or strollers), fur family, partners or spouses, those who struggle walking or maneuvering on paths or sidewalks without assistance, someone who hates being outside, anyone who will be annoyed with me saying, “wait, did you hear that bird?”, someone that struggles to walk/ wheel for 30+ minutes, anyone who struggles to follow through with scheduling an appointment and showing up or someone who doesn’t believe or is not open to believing that she/they deserve time for self-care and positive change.
- *Woman. Hi, have we met? If not, you need to know I consider myself an ally. Cisgender women, transgendered women, genderfluid women, non-binary, genderqueer, or even still trying to figure it out…I welcome you to any of my events or services. I strive to provide a safe, supportive and affirming space for all of my clients.
Group services: Believe me, there is power in the group. Support, understanding, gentle feedback, accountability, humor, and fresh ideas. Another bonus? They won’t dent your pocketbook like individual sessions. Group counseling will be limited to 4-6 attendees, reducing the feeling of being too overwhelmed or lost in the shuffle. Group offerings will be update as events are scheduled:
Jump Starting Change: This program is a perfect blend of support and guidance; helping you to create positive and lasting change in your life. I have revamped the program and it is available on MemberVault. 3 months of support and course work to help you achieve your goals.
Please note: Reiki is not a substitute for medical care or medication. It does support and complement other medical and natural healing techniques or other types of treatment; such as talk therapy to address emotional issues or physician’s recommendations to address the root cause of physical issues. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice.
