Celebrating the Summer Solstice

Today is Summer Solstice (in the Northern Hemisphere)!  The Earth continues to shift and today is our longest day of sunshine for the year.  I love the celebration of the changes in rhythms and cycles of life and Nature.

The Summer Solstice is a time to celebrate the Earth's bounty at it's fullest; fertility, strength, healing, and growth.  Fertility can also be seen within our creativity, connection to others (including love and significant relationships), prosperity, and abundance.

It is a time to reflect on where you have been, what is still in the process of developing and growing, and what is still to come.

Here are some of my favorite ways to celebrate the Summer Solstice:

1. Celebrate by spending time in Nature.

  • Honor the elements of Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind.

  • Honor the four directions; East, South, West, and North.

  • Send gratitude or acknowledgement of your connection to Nature.

  • Create a mandala with pieces of nature (sticks/twigs, rocks, leaves, flowers, etc).  Honoring the Earth and cycles.  Breathe your hopes and wishes into the mandala.

2. Spend time with your tribe.

  • Share and celebrate a special moment with your friends and family.

  • Share a meal, an experience, or anything to feel connected to each other.

  • Share a laugh, tell stories, share thanks for their friendship and love.

3. Light a candle or light a fire (SAFELY, especially in the dry regions)

  • Celebrate the light of the day, celebrate all that you love about summer.

  • In older traditions, fires (or candles) were lit to bring luck and keep negativity and bad or dark energies away.

  • As you light the candle or fire, set your intention for what you wish to welcome into your life and send thanks to those supporting manifesting your intentions.

4. Journal.

  • Reflect on all that you have accomplished over the last 6 months; big and small wins.

  • Write down all the things you wish to release.  Either bury the paper in the ground or burn the paper (if can be done safely) in a fire.

  • Write down all the things you wish to welcome into your life.  Savor the feelings that will accompany reaching your goals.

5. Meditate or Pray.

  • Try focusing on the essence of Summer Solstice (fertility, strength, healing, abundance, prosperity, gratitude, and growth).

  • Send healing or restored health to those who are in need around the world and in your life.  Send peace to those in need.  Send abundance to all.  Send love and connection to all.

 6. Give thanks.

  • Gratitude is such a huge part of celebrating the cycles and seasons of Nature.

  • Remember to give thanks for all that you have received (even the difficult times, as there is usually a reason we have to go through that messy middle) and for all that you will receive.

  • Send love and gratitude to all who have supported you on your journey, including your self.

Affirmations for the Summer Solstice:

  • I am filled with the Divine Light of the Summer Solstice.

  • The Sun's Light burns away anything that does not serve me.

  • The Sun's Light fills me with the strength to grow and expand.

  • I am radiant.  I am healthy.   I am strong.

  • I connect easily to my intuition, guiding me along my path effortlessly.

  • I easily tap into and receive the abundance of the season.

  • I am grateful for Divine guidance and spiritual support along my path.
